Test bed trials
The XTS-W has undergone rigorous test bed trials to confirm that it will operate successfully under real bearing failure conditions.
In order to put the equipment through its paces, the main bearing on the test bed engine was machined to minimise contact area.
The XTS-W clearly indicated the main bearing problem, with the level of wear detected correlating to the actual value within 0.05mm. No significant rise in temperature was recorded.
Sea trials
A sea trial during 2004 on a container vessel driven by a 7 cylinder engine (7S50MC) backed up the engine test bed findings.
The system was successfully installed and calibrated in 5 working days , with future installations anticipated to be in the order of 3 -4 days (The ship remained in service throughout)
AMOT analysed output data at regular intervals.
●System stable throughout
●No false alarms
Moreover, it showed the system to be totally reliable in service. |
